unicornthings

unicornthings is a ridiculous but deadly serious attempt to re-enact Isabella’s favourite GIFs by analogue means. Cavorting ‘en unicorn’ whilst trying to generate a rainbow using light and a prism, she blows an irreverent raspberry at digital practices and contemporary art. Co-opting the music from Malcolm Le Grice’s 1970 film masterpiece Berlin Horse, she reminds us that all technologies were once new. Finally defeated by her complete lack of the right equipment and an escaping kitten, she vomits up an underwhelming glitter rainbow.

unicornthings was originally commissioned for the exhibition The New Black at RESONATE 2015, before being re-conceived and performed as cabaret at Bethnal Green Working Men’s Club as part of Carnesky Production’s famous Finishing School.
