The Disappearance of Sophie Calle
In 2001, Isabella followed Sophie Calle to Venice. Using Calle’s Suite Venetienne as a guide to Calle’s encounter with Henri B, Isabella pursued Calle and her traces across the city. She stayed in the same hotel, wore a blonde wig, and tried to meet the people Calle referred to in her text. Borrowing liberally from Baudrillard’s essay on following, and from her own writing in What Is Not Said, Isabella attempted to practice the art of disappearance.
